Internship
Stephens Program
The Stephens Program, is a paid 51 week internship operated out of Caraway Conference Center and Camps that offers the opportunity to grow in programming planning, hands on skill development, and spiritual maturity. During the year, the Stephens delve into the intricacies of year-round camp ministry, immersing themselves in the dynamic operations of our facility. Each fall, we invite 4-6 college aged individuals to live on our property and serve alongside us to provide the best service to our campers and guest groups while learning and investing in the roots of our camp’s functionality.
We focus our attention on our three core values which we believe strongly support our goal to invest in people who love Jesus, the outdoors, and camp ministry. We want to instill professionalism, ownership, and a heart and attitude of service.
While focusing on these skills, we also want to pour into your spiritual life with frequent group devotions, intentional discipleship, and purposeful conversations. The Stephens Program also offers a great opportunity for networking and seeing the operations of other camp facilities.
For more information or questions, feel free to send an email to the Director of the Stephens Program, Calvin Lindsey, at [email protected].
Programming
From development, set up, and execution, you will get to learn everything it takes to lift a camp program off the ground! Each year, The Stephens take the lead on developing our Winter Camp programming.
ACORNS
The Stephens are the hands and feet of our ACORNS program! Throughout the year, you will have the opportunity to teach our environmental education classes for local elementary schools that come to Camp Caraway.
Recreation
Recreation doesn’t just stop after Summer Camp. Our guest groups love the opportunities to stretch themselves through our recreation offerings. Stephens will learn how to operate, facilitate, and maintain the safety needs of everything from Zipline to Hatchet throwing.
Guest Services
Hospitality is the core of camp ministry. This heart posture starts from the first contact guests have with Caraway. The Stephens will spend time learning how to execute professionalism from that initial phone call to assisting guests with their needs during their stay.
Professional & Personal Development
Year round camp ministry ebbs and flows between predictable and unexpected, restful and high energy. This is why we believe in pouring into our Stephens both professionally and personally. While we help facilitate opportunities for you to get out of your comfort zone, you get out of camp ministry what you put in. Simultaneously, it’s important to learn biblical rhythms that sustain a life in full time ministry. We work hard, but we also play and rest hard. We do this in a few ways:
- Intentional times of Bible Study with Camp Leadership
- One on One Mentoring Sessions
- Touring Camps and Creating Community and Learning by Immersion
- The Big Backpacking Trip
- Local Church Attendance
Where are they now?
Many of our Stephens find a full time job in Camp Ministry after their internship here at Caraway. Those who haven’t have gone on to become educators, business leaders, military personnel, church and non-profit ministry and beyond. Whichever route they chose post-internship, the time they spent here developing their leadership skills was invaluable!
